Accessibility

Throughout our web site we have endeavoured to meet a range of Accessibility Standards.

Accessibility standards for web design facilitate users with a wide range visual or motor abilities to access the information on a web site. The Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) set the standards to which web sites should be designed to satisfy the requirements of most international legislation.

We have done our best to meet the standards that govern web site design (within our budget) on this site. Whilst we accept there is always the opportunity for improvement, we are confident that we have avoided many of the design faults that make 80%* of web sites inaccessible.

Key Points

  • All text size is user adjustable via your browser settings.
  • Text colour contrast is maintained for users with visual colour impairments.
  • The structure of the HTML is coded to help screen readers. For example, at the start of each page there is a hidden option to skip menus and start reading from the content of the page.
  • The use of tables has been kept to an absolute minimum.
  • Except for validating web forms, device dependent javascript has not been used.
  • All images carry 'Alt' Tags to identify their content.
  • The site has been designed to be readable with the Cascading Style Sheet switched off.
